Significant progress is being made to decarbonize the electricity sector by closing coal plants and adding more renewables like wind and solar. In fact, Fresh Energy has an entire team and strategic imperative to support this work. As a result, our electricity is growing cleaner and cleaner, and we must also shift our “end use” energy sectors—like buildings and transportation—to use more of this cleaner electricity rather than fossil fuels. […] Residential buildings in particular are vital to “electrify” given their rising contributions to Minnesota’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Accordingly, we must invest more in the decarbonization—in this case, electrification—of residential buildings.
